Joliet Cold Storage Workers Ratify First Teamster Contract
Local 754 Secures Wages, Retirement Benefits for Newest Members
November 17, 2014 -- Dairy and frozen food warehouse workers in Joliet ratified their first contract with Teamsters Local 754 last month after voting unanimously to join the union.
Twelve employees of Joliet Cold Storage voted as well to approve their new five-year agreement. The contract provides members with wage increases and stronger retirement benefits. The warehouse workers represent the most recent group to join Local 754, which has represented thousands of men and women in the Chicagoland dairy industry for decades.
“The employees of Joliet Cold Storage should be proud of themselves for ratifying a strong Teamster contract,” said Orlando Fuller, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 754. “This agreement ensures job security for our hardworking members, who remain committed to putting in an honest day’s labor each and every time they go to work.”
Joliet Cold Storage opened earlier this year in Chicago’s southwest suburbs, becoming one of the area’s largest distribution centers for refrigerated and frozen foods and chilled dairy products. The site is a sister location of Bolingbrook Cold Storage, also home to Local 754 members. Both companies are divisions of Villa Park-based Supreme Lobster and Seafood, whose delivery drivers and warehouse workers are represented by Teamsters Local 703.
Teamsters Local 754 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
